Wikipedia, German, June 1, 2020 (Leo Karl Gerhartz; Leo Karl Gerhartz (born 19 February 1937 in Essen; died 31 October 2016 in Frankfurt am Main) was a German music journalist; he studied music, literature and theater history at the Freien Universität Berlin, the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, and at Italian universities; in 1966 he received his doctorate from Adam Adrio in Berlin with a thesis on Giuseppe Verdi; after working for two years in a publishing house, he switched to Hessischer Rundfunk in Frankfurt am Main; Gerhartz was head of e-music programs and from 1988 to 1999 was music director of Hessischer Rundfunk; during his time at the station, Gerhartz also moderated the program "Musik im Kreuzverhör" (Music in Cross-Examination), which he created)
