German Wikipedia, viewed March 1st, 2024 (Johann Hermann Schmincke (born August 23rd, 1684 in Kassel; died July 18th, 1743 in Kassel) was a German historian and professor at the University of Marburg. In 1708 he accompanied the son of a councillor from Kassel as a tutor to study at the universities of Utrecht and Leiden. In 1712 he became professor of History and Eloquence at the University of Marburg. He used the Latinized forms of the names Johann Hermann Schminckius and Johannes Hermannus Schminckius in his publications. He remained an honorary professor and member of the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Marburg until his death)
