P. and Charlie Marie (Moore) Karr; enrolled in Macalester College in Saint Paul, MN, but left after 2 years to travel; was involved in the anti-apartheid movement; earned an M.F.A. from Goddard College in 1979; moved to Boston in 1980; married poet Michael Milburn in 1983 and had a son, they divorced in 1991; has worked as an assistant professor at several colleges and universities; teaches in the department of English at Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY; has been featured on NPR radio and CSPAN's Book TV)
