Kentucky encyclopedia, ©1992: page 609-610 (Humphrey Marshall, born in 1760 in Fauquier County, Virginia. Studied law. Served in the Virginia militia during the Revolutionary War, Marshall moved to what is now Fayette County, Ky. Was deputy surveyor under Thomas Marshall until 1790 when he was made deputy surveor of what is now Woodford County, Ky. Served in the Kentucky legislature in 1793 and 1794, served as a US Senator March 4, 1795 to March 3, 1801. Wrote "History of Kentucky" (1812). Died July 3, 1841.)
