Moved to Fayette County, Ky. in the mid-1790s where he attended the Pisgah Academy, the Kentucky Academy in Woodford County and Transylvania University. Graduated from William and Mary in 1803 then studied law. Admitted to the bar in 1805, opened practice then appointed commonwealthy attorney. Elected as a Republican to Kentucky House in 1807, 1809 and 1814 and to the Kentucky Senate between 1817 and 1821. Served in U.S. House of Representatives August 8, 1810 to March 3, 1811 and in U.S. Senate December 16, 1814 to May 1, 1816. Served as lieutenant governor 1820-1824 and was defeated in the election for Kentucky governor in 1828. Died August 30, 1835 in Liverpool, England.) |
