German Wikipedia, viewed Feb. 23rd, 2024 (Gregor Bersman, also Bersmann, Bersmanus (born March 10th, 1538 in Annaberg; died October 5th, 1611 in Zerbst), was a German philologist and Latin poet. In 1571, he accepted a call to Leipzig as Professor of Poetry, in 1575 he taught Ancient Languages and Ethics. In 1581, he received an offer as rector of the Francisceum grammar school in Zerbst. He took up the post on January 30, 1582 and administered it until his death. He has gone down in literary history primarily as a Latin poet. He also studied ancient authors and edited academic declamations and textbooks in the style of Philipp Melanchthon.)
