Wikipedia, Apr. 18, 2014 (Rabih az-Zubayr; Rabih az-Zubayr ibn Fadl Allah or Rabih Fadlallah, Arabic رابح فضل الله , رابح الزبير ابن فضل الله; usually known as Rabah in French; c. 1842-Apr. 22, 1900; Sudanese warlord and slave trader; in Halfaya al-Muluk, a suburb of Khartoum; in 1860s he became principal lieutenant of Sudanese slaveholder Sebehr Rahma; by early 1870s was chief lieutenant of al-Zubayr, who was made pasha of Bahr el Ghazal for the then ruler of Egypt; after revolt Rabin excaped and carved out kingdom for himself south of Ouaddai [present-day Chad/Central African Republic]; his forces invaded Darfur in 1887; first conflicts with French 1891-1893; conquered Borno Empire [northern Nigeria/Chad] in 1893; resuscitated slave raids in the area; killed while fleeing French forces at the Chari River [Chad])
