Dictionnaire des journalistes 1600-1789, Oct. 22, 2014 (Jacques ROSHETTE [that is, Rochette] DE LA MORLIÈRE (1719-1785); Jacques Rochette, son of Joseph Rochette de La Morlière, born Grenoble, 22 April 1719; after scandals in Grenoble, he was sent to Paris, where he joined the king's musketeers, but was dismissed for dishonorable reasons; first made his name by publishing Angola in 1746; the publication of Campagnes de l'abbé T [Les lauriers ecclesiastiques, ou Campagnes de l'abbé de T***] in 1747 caused him to be exiled to Rouen, where he seduced a wealthy man's daughter and blackmailed her father; back in Paris, he caused another scandal with the publication of Très humbles remontrances à la cohue and an affair with a married woman, and was exiled to Grenoble until 1749; involved in another scandal with a married woman in 1758; imprisoned in Saint-Lazare in Paris, 1762; involved in several other scandals and scams with women; his reputation was especially as a pamphleteer and as the head of the claques at the Théâtre-Français and the Théâtre-Italien)
