Wikipedia, January 15, 2016 (Hans Wolfgang Singer (art historian); born September 16, 1867 in New York City, New York; died May 30, 1957 in Dresden; German art historian; Hans Wolfgang Singer was the son of the musician and composer Otto Singer (1833-1894); he studied German literature and art history; after obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree, he studied in Munich, Berlin, and Leipzig; he received a doctorate in 1891; from 1891 to 1932 he worked at the Kupferstichkabinett Dresden (an art museum for drawing, printmaking and photography), first as a research assistant, then as assistent director, and finally as curator; in 1903 he was awarded the title of professor; Singer undertook numerous study trips through Europe and published art history articles in German and English journals, often under the pseudonym "L. Tyson ")
