Rap, born Hubert Geroid Brown; militant political activist, islamic leader, alleged murderer, black nationalist; born 04 October 1943 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, United States; studied sociology at the Southern University in Baton Rouge (1960-1964); relocated to Washington, D.C. and became chairman of the Nonviolent Action Group (NAG); joined the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC); appointed the Black Panther Party's minister of justice (1968); found at the scene of a shooting at a Manhattan bar, arrested, charged with armed robbery, and incarcerated for five years (1971); in prison converted to orthodox Islam and changed his name to Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin; after his release moved to Atlanta in 1976, where he eventually became the imam of a small Muslim community; in 2002 sentenced to life in prison for the 2000 murder of an Atlanta police officer; he has steadfastly denied these charges but remains in prison)
