After a time spent teaching high school in Damascus, Syria, he obtained a Ph.D. in Islamic studies at Paris University (Sorbonne). From 1972 to 1980, Michon was Chief Technical Adviser to a series of joint programs by UNESCO, the UN Development Program, and the Moroccan government aimed at the preservation of traditional arts and crafts. He died in 2013 in Lausanne, Switzerland, where he had lived since 1952.) |
