French Wikipedia, viewed March 1st, 1024 (Jacques Sirmond, born October 12th, 1559 in Riom (department of Puy-de-Dôme, France) and died October 7th, 1651 in Paris, was a French Jesuit priest, historian, hagiographer, exegete and patrologist. In 1590, he was called to Rome, where he became secretary to the superior general, Claudio Acquaviva, until 1608. In Rome, (...) he devoted time to studying the ancient texts of the Church Fathers, which he discovered in the Vatican Apostolic Library. Back in France, he was confessor to Louis XIII from 1639 to 1643. As a historian, Jacques Sirmond is known for having edited some forty Latin and Byzantine authors and chroniclers of the medieval period)
