Hauswedell (born 3 September 1901 in Hamburg; died 2 November 1983 Hamburg); Dr. phil., 1924; co-founded the publishing firm Der Deutsche Buch-Club, 1927, to which he added an antiquarian book firm in 1930; both firms absorbed in Hauswedell's own publishing firm, Verlag Hauswedell, 1935; besides his antiquarian book firm and auction house (called Hauswedell & Nolte after 1969, in existence untl 2015), from 1963 to 1974 he operated a gallery in Baden-Baden, showing contemporary art; one of the founders of the revived Maximilian-Gesellschaft in Hamburg, 1946; chairman of the Vereinigung Deutscher Buchantiquare und Graphikhändler, which became the Verband Deutscher Antiquare e.V. in 1952; honors include the Grosses Verdienstkreuz of the Federal Republic of Germany, 1966)
