Kentucky encyclopedia, ©1992: page 919 (George Graham Vest, Kentucky newspaper editor and U.S. Senator from Missouri. Born in Frankfort, Ky. on December 6, 1830, he graduated from Centre College in Danville in 1848 and from the law department of Transylvania University in 1853. Co-owned the "Bulletin", the second newspaper in Owensboro, Ky. with his brother-in-law and served as the editor. Moved to Missouri where he practiced law. Served in the Missouri legislature 1860-1861 and was a member of the Confederate Congress in Richmond, Virginia 1862-1865. Returned to Missouri in 1865 (his home was in Sweet Springs) and was elected as a Democrat to the U.S. Senate in 1879, serving from March 4, 1879 to March 3, 1903. Died at home on August 9, 1904.)
