Wikipedia, 10 July 2017 (Olavi Pesonen; Olavi Samuel Pesonen; born 8 April 1909 in Helsinki, died 11 November 1993 in Helsinki; Finnish composer, organist, music critic, and music educator; Pesonen studied with Ilmari Krohn and Leevi Madetoja at the University of Helsinki until 1932; he continued his education at the Kirkkomusiikkikeskus College of Helsinki and studied at the Conservatory in 1934, where he earned a diploma in the organ program in 1938; he continued his education with Arthur Willner in Vienna (1937), Günther Ramin in Leipzig (1939), Joseph Marx in Salzburg (1943) and Mátyás Seiber in London (1947-1952); from 1933 to 1946 he worked as a music teacher in Helsinki; he taught at the Sibelius Academy until 1956; he was choir director from 1935 to 1941 and organist from 1946 to 1955; from 1956 to 1959 he was a lecturer at the Pedagogical College; from 1962 to 1964 he was president of the Nordic Council of Composers)
