He received his scientific training and conducted his early research at Trinity College, Cambridge. He moved to India in 1903 to take up a position in the India Meteorological Department. (IMD). He retired from IMD and returned to England in 1924 to assume the chaired professorship at Imperial College that Sir Napier Shaw had formerly held. Knighthood was conferred on him that same year. He retired in 1934 but continued to publish research papers until the late 1940s. He died in 1958.) |
