M/B/RS Acquisition file (Warner Brothers file) (A Star is "Re" Born, in Chacers, the newsletter of Chace Productions, Inc.: in 1954, A Star is born premiered as a 182 minute film. Due to theater owner complaints about the length, Warner Bros. shortened the fim, first to 155 minutes, then to 135 minutes. Under the auspices of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, film historian Ronald Haver restored the film to a 176 minute version)

The next day, two scenes of 15 minutes total were deleted, making the September 29, 1955 world premiere running time 181 minutes. After the premiere, an additional 27 minutes were cut, making the running time 154 minutes. In 1983 the film was restored to 176 minutes. Although all of the original soundtrack was available, some visual footage couldn't be found: the restored version includes a montage of stills, dialogue and music in place of the missing scenes)
