Republic); died January 21, 1938 at the monastery in Hacking (Vienna); he entered the Dominican Order in 1883, and studied philosophy and theology from 1884 to 1891 in Vienna; he was ordained to the Dominican Province of Austria in 1890; from 1891 to 1893, he studied oriental languages at the Bible School in Jerusalem; from 1893, he was professor of exegesis, Biblical archaeology, and hermeneutics at the University of Freiburg; from 1896 to 1928 he taught courses on Biblical Hebrew; from 1898 to 1988 and 1913 to 1914 he was dean of the faculty of theology, and was president from 1910 to 1911; in 1928 he retreated to the Dominican monastery in Hacking; he was a renowned scholar and representative of modernism, a corresponding member of the Royal. Academy of Prague, and received an honorary doctorate from the University of Athens)
