Bio-bibliographical guide to medieval and early modern jurists (website), viewed February 9, 2023: (Bernard, of Pavia; Bernardo Balbi; Bernardus Balbi Ticinensis; Bernardus Balbus; Bernard of Pavia; Bernhard von Pavia; Bernardo da Pavia; born in Pavia; studied in Bologna under Bazianus, Gandulphus, and (perhaps) Huguccio; taught at Bologna and worked in the Curia at Rome during the 1170s; in 1187, he became the Provost of Pavia; in 1191, the Bishop of Faenza; and in 1198, the bishop of Pavia. He died in Pavia on 18 September 1213; he was one of the most important 12th-century canonists)
