He was 77. Mr. Trimble was the inaugural holder of the office of first minister of Northern Ireland, a position created in the power-sharing agreement between British loyalists and Irish republicans established under the Good Friday Agreement. William David Trimble was born in Bangor, a seaside resort town near Belfast, on Oct. 15, 1944)
