After studying at Frankfurt am Main, where he acquired a good knowledge of German and French, he spent time in central Europe, Scandinavia, and Russia. Huish's wide-ranging literary output covered natural history, current and historical topics, romances, and poetry. He is best remembered, however, for his books on bees and beekeeping)
