Washington post WWW site, viewed August 12, 2021 (in obituary dated "yesterday": Neal Conan, a radio journalist who embarked on his broadcasting career at age 17 and spent nearly four decades at NPR, where he shaped news coverage as a reporter and producer and became known to millions of listeners as host of the midday call-in show "Talk of the Nation," died Aug. 10 at his home in Hawi, Hawaii. He was 71. Neal Joseph Conan III was born Nov. 26, 1949, in Beirut. The family later moved to Saudi Arabia, and then returned to the United States. They settled in New Jersey and later New York City. Mr. Conan spent periods as NPR's bureau chief in New York and London, foreign editor, news director and executive producer of "All Things Considered")
