Sharp, Nancy. American legislative leaders in the Midwest, 1911-1994, 1997: pages 109-110 (John Henry Fraine, born April 2, 1861 in Nottinghamshire, England. Immigrated with his family in 1866, he attended elementary school in Springfield, Mass., then settled in Walsh County, Dakota Territory (now North Dakota.) Established a law practice in Grafton, N.D. in 1893. He served with the U.S. Army during the Spanish-American War, then later along the Mexican border 1916-17 and in France during World War I, eventually rising to the level of brigadier general. A Republican, Fraine was elected to the North Dakota House of Representatives where he served for three consecutive terms, until 1913. In 1914 he successfully ran for lieutenant governor of N.D., where he served one term. In 1922 he moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where he became an attorney for the U.S. Veterans Administration. Died in Minneapolis on May 15, 1943.)
