Wikipedia, July 13, 2023 (Académie Julian; a private art school for painting and sculpture, founded in Paris, France in 1867 by French painter and teacher Rodolphe Julian (1839-1907); it not only prepared students for the exams at the École des Beaux-Arts, but offered independent alternative arts training and education; in 1880, women who were not allowed to enroll in the École des Beaux-Arts were accepted by the Académie Julian; foreign students were also welcome; the original school was at the Passage des Panoramas; over time, the Académie opened schools in other locations, including on rue Vivienne in the 2nd arrondissement for female student artists, oveseen by Julian's spouse, painter Amélie Beaury-Saurel; the school was active 1868-1968; after 1968 it integrated with ESAG Penninghen)
