In 1965 he moved to Vanderbilt as Professor of Economics, where he remained until his retirement in 1998. He remained active in the department as an emeritus professor all the way through early 2019.)

Tennessean, viewed May 6, 2019 (Nashville - Fred Meinhard Westfield passed away on April 24, 2019, at Richland Place Health Center in Nashville, Tennessee. In January 1939, 12-year-old Fred was sent to England as part of the Kindertransport. He took graduate studies at MIT, earned a PhD in industrial economics in 1957. From 1957-1965, he served as assistant and associate professor at Northwestern University. In 1965, Vanderbilt appointed Fred as professor of economics, where he taught microeconomic theory to a generation of PhD students.)
