Wikipedia, Mar. 7, 2012 (Iain Baxter&, OC, OBC; b. Iain Baxter, Nov. 16, 1936, Middlesbrough, England; emigrated to Canada, 1937; Canadian conceptual artist; in 2005, legally changed his name to Iain Baxter&, in part to reflect his fascination for the ampersand as a typographic mark, but also to reflect what he values in a "non-authorial take on art production ... an unending collaboration with the viewer and the means to question the artist's role")

In 2005 he legally changed his name to Iain Baxter& (pronounced Baxterand); began creating artwork under his given name in the late 1950s; in 1966 he established IT, an art-making entity, with John Friel and Ingrid Baxter. The group disbanded later that year, and the N.E. Baxter Thing Co. was founded with Iain Baxter serving as president. The company was renamed N.E. Thing Co. in 1967 and was officially incorporated in British Columbia in 1969 as N.E. Thing Co. Ltd., at which time Iain and Ingrid became co-presidents; the company disbanded in 1978 when Iain and Ingrid ended their relationship. Following its dissolution, Baxter again produce artwork under his given name--both singularly and with his wife Louise Chance Baxter--until he changed his name to Iain Baxter& in 2005) p. 4 of cover ("his defining contribution to mainstream histories of conceptual art, photography, and installation art")
