Biography/History notePhilp Hobel was born July 5, 1921 in New York, New York. Philip was a producer, director and writer. He was the founder and owner of the Cinema Guild, Hobel-Leiterman Productions and Document Associates and producer and distributor of scores of award-winning televeision series, documentaries and features, notably "Tender Mercies," which was nominated for five Academy Awards. He graduated from Columbia College, served in the U.S. Navy and founded and operated the Corland Furniture Company until 1970 when he entered the television and film business. He died October 23, 2013 at the age of 92 in New York.
