Kentucky encyclopedia, ©1992: page 615 (William Williams Mather, born May 24, 1804 in Brooklyn, Connecticut. Educated at West Point, New York (1828), Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut (1833) and Brown University in Providence, R.I. (1836). While engaged in a geological investigations in New York in 1837-1840, he was also state geologist of Ohio (1837-1840) and of Kentucky (1838). Died in Columbus, Ohio on February 25, 1859)
