Attended Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., entering at age 15 and graduating in 1882 with a BA in history. Remained there for graduate work in economics and social science, for which she received her MA in 1891. Studied at the University of Leipzig from 1891 to 1892 and again in 1895. In 1921 Semple joined the staff at Clark University's school of geography. Published articles and books related to geography. Died May 8, 1932 in West Palm Beach, Florida while on leave from Clark University due to a prolonged illness.)
