Dictionary of African Biography, accessed November 7, 2014, via Oxford African American Studies Center database: (Amrouche, Marguerite Taos; Marie-Louise Amrouche; fiction writer, folk musician, singer; born 1913 in Tunisia; obtained her brevet supérieur in Tunis (1934) and joined the École Normale at Sévres; collected, transcribed, and interpreted Kabyle songs, in collaboration with her brother and her mother (1936); presented her repertoire in Paris and in Munich (1937-1938); received a scholarship to study at the Casa Velasquez, Spain while at the Congrés de Chant de Fés (1939); conducted a comparative study of Spanish and Berber folk songs and her first public appearance was at the First Congress of Moroccan Music (1939); her best-known work is Le Grain magique (The Magic Grain), published (1966); recorded six phonograph albums of her mother's songs; registered them in her name at the French copyright agency Société des Auteurs, Compositeurs, et Editeurs de Musique (Society of Authors, Composers, and Editors of Music, SACEM); performed at the First World Festival of Negro Arts (1966); was not allowed to represent Algeria at the Pan-African Cultural Conference (1969); performed at Théâtre de la Ville in Paris and prestigious cathedrals across Europe; died 02 April 1976 in Saint-Michel-l'Observatoire, France)
