German Wikipedia, viewed February 14th, 2024 (Burkhard Mithoff ; (also Burchardus Mithobius, Burchard Mithoff, Metobius, Mithauff, Mithobius, Mythof); born April 30th, 1501 in Neustadt am Rübenberge, died August 16th, 1564 in Hann. Münden, was a German physician and mathematician. In Erfurt, he joined the Reformation and was a member of the Humanist Circle. Mithoff was appointed to the University of Marburg in 1531. He held the chair of Physics there until 1536, teaching mathematics, astronomy and astrology as a professor. At the same time, he studied medicine. On July 20, 1535, he performed the first dissection of a human head in Marburg. He also served as councillor and personal physician for Landgrave Philipp I of Hessen in 1536, he therefore moved from Marburg to Kassel for this purpose. In 1539 he moved again, this time to Hann. Münden in order to work as the personal physician of Eric I, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg and other Noblemen)
