At the age of 20 came to Kentucky and was appointed surveyor of Muhlenberg Co. He laid out Greenville and became a town trustee when it was formed in 1799. Studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1805. Was a captain during the War of 1812. Represented Muhlenberg County in the Kentucky General Assembly 1812-1813 and served in the U.S. House of Representatives March 4, 1815-March 3, 1817 and from March 4, 1819 to March 3, 1821. In 1821 he was appointed circuit judge and held that position until his death. Died on December 30, 1841.
