De Nederlandse en Vlaamse auteurs, 1985, viewed online 6 August 2020 (Alewijn, Abraham Martijnsz.; northern Dutch poet and playwright (Amsterdam 16.11.1664-Batavia 4.10.1721); degree in law at Utrecht, 1685; mostly stayed in 's-Graveland; first wrote in pastoral style, later made his name with farces and comedies; Amarillis (1693), "tragedy with happy ending" in 5 acts; in abridged form, was set to music with over 70 arias by David Petersen: Opera of sangspel van Amarillis; collected Zede- en harpzangen (1694); left for Batavia 1707 as merchant, there in 1715 became judicial counsel, in 1721 became advocaat-fiscaal; during this period, published successful comedies: Beslikte Swaantje en drooge Fobert (1715), De Puiterveensche helleveeg (1720), and Jan Los, of Den bedroogen Oost-indievaer (1721))
