Berklee WWW site, June 5, 2019 (Professor Richard L. Evans of Natick, Mass., passed away on October 5, 2014. Evans began his career as a bassist with such artists as Eddie Harris, Sun Ra, and Lionel Hampton. In 1962, he was hired to produce an album by pianist Ahmad Jamal, which led to a position as an in-house arranger for Chess Records and, later, an executive producer. During his career, Evans also worked with Billie Holiday, Natalie Cole, Ramsey Lewis, and Peabo Bryson. He joined the Berklee faculty in 1985, where he taught until shortly before his death)
