African American National Biography, accessed December 29, 2014, via Oxford African American Studies Center database: (Bristol, Johnny; John William Bristol; rhythm and blues musician / singer, songwriter, music producer; born 03 February 1939 in Morganton, North Carolina, United States; formed a singing group known as the Jackets; enlisted in the United States Air Force; formed the duo Johnny and Jackey; recorded four 45s; signed with Motown Records; began as a staff writer but ultimately became one of the top writers and producers; best known for his songwriting and producing collaboration with Fuqua; "Someday We'll Be Together", was the last number one record for Diana Ross and the Supremes; in 1974 he released his debut album "Hang on in There Baby"; the title song generated two Grammy nominations in 1975; album's follow-up single, "You and I" also became a hit; died 21 March 2004)
