African American National Biography, accessed December 12 2014, via Oxford African American Studies Center database: (De Passe, Suzanne Celeste; recording industry leader, screenwriter, radio / television producer / director, motion picture producer / director; born 01 July 1947 in New York, New York, United States; she entered Syracuse University in 1964; transferred to Manhattan Community College to major in English; moved to Los Angeles in 1970, held titles of director of West Coast creative division and vice president of Motown Industries before becoming president of Motown Productions in 1980; produced successful television specials such as Motown 25-Yesterday, Today, and Forever,which won her the Peabody Award and Emmy for producing the best music/variety special of the year; in 1985 she was the executive producer of Motown Returns to the Apollo and won her second Emmy; that same year she optioned Larry McMurtry's Pulitzer Prize-winning book Lonesome Dove, and in 1989 coproduced the highly successful television miniseries; it not only won her another Emmy, but also won Peabody and Golden Globe awards)
