Wikipedia, die freie Enzyklopädie, 28 October 2023: Wilhelm Langenheim (Wilhelm Langenheim; Ernst Wilhelm Langenheim (23 February 1807 in Braunschweig-4 May 1874 in Philadelphia); German photographer; law studies in Göttingen; began practicing law in Braunschweig; 1834, emigrated to America, landed in Baltimore; from New York, went to south Texas; in 1835, joined Texas troops in Texan War of Independence against Mexico; 1837, in Second Seminole War, in second dragoon regiment as assistant to quartermaster; came to Philadelphia May 1840, joined brother Friedrich; July 1841-November 1842, contributing editor of weekly German-language Philadelphia newspaper Die Alte und Neue Welt, the organ of Deutschen Ansiedlungsgesellschaft Philadelphia; 1843, in Philadelphia Merchants' Exchange Building, Friedrich and Wilhelm Langenheim opened their daguerrotype studio under the name "W. & F. Langenheim"; Wilhelm was responsible for administrative matters; 1843, Alexander Beckers joined the studio, but he left it spring 1844; in May 1845, in New York (201 Broadway), Beckers opened the agency "Langenheim & Beckers" with Friedrich Langenheim as dealer for Voigtländer cameras and lenses, which existed until 1848; 1848, the Langenheims began development of slides that could be projected with magic lantern, with great commercial success; at Great Exhibition of 1851, London, they introduced their patent; 1851, began collaboration with psychiatrist Thomas S.
