San Jose Mercury news WWW site, viewed Feb. 5, 2016 (in obituary posted Feb. 3, 2016: musician Jackie King, a renowned guitarist and teacher who toured and recorded with fellow Texan Willie Nelson and was equally at home playing jazz, rock or country music, died Jan. 24 at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center after suffering a heart attack at his home in San Rafael; born and raised in San Antonio; joined the staff of the Guitar Institute of Technology in Los Angeles, teaching there for a year before starting his own Southwest Guitar Conservatory in San Antonio; after seven years, he closed the school to devote more time to his performing career as a soloist and with Nelson's band; served on the board of the Music Teachers' Association of California, frequently taught jazz guitar at clinics, lectured at the Berklee School of Music and was featured in a series of instructional books and DVDs; a longtime Marin resident, Mr. King lived in Mill Valley before moving to San Rafael)
