St. Louis post-dispatch WWW site, viewed Dec. 4, 2015 (in obituary dated Dec. 01, 2015: Carlos "Buddy" Moreno, one of STL's premier artisans and "a major player" in Big Band jazz, died Sunday [Nov. 29, 2015] at 103; began his singing career in the early 1930s, with the Griff Williams and Dick Jurgens bands; joined Harry James' orchestra in 1943; during that time, he had small parts in two movies: "Two Girls and a Sailor" and "Bathing Beauty" ; in the late 1940s, Mr. Moreno formed his own 13-piece band and toured the country playing all the big ballrooms; m. Perri Mitchell; in the early 1950s, the Morenos moved to Florissant when the group became the house band at the Chase Club in the Chase Park Plaza Hotel; their shows were heard nationally on the radio program "Saturdays at the Chase"; Mr. Moreno remained a voice on local radio for years after, first as program director at KWK (1380 AM) and WEW (770 AM) when the stations played jazz standards, and then as a host on WSIE (88.7 FM) into the 2000s)
