Physicist, electrical engineer, inventor, translator, and community figure. He studied theology and physics, and from 1884 to 1916 he was a professor of experimental physics at Prague Polytechnical Institute. He wrote in German over 50 technical and scientific books and papers and approx. 30 articles and brochures on the Ukrainian question. He along with P. Kulish and I. Nechui-Levytsky also translated into Ukrainian the Gospels, the entire New Testament in 1880, and the Old Testament.
