After graduating from Centre College at Danville in 1835, he studied law at Transylvania University. Practiced law in Mississippi but returned to Harrodsburg, Ky. in 1839. A Democrat, he was elected to the state Senate in 1850. Elected governor of Kentucky in 1859, he served one term from August 30, 1859 until his resignation on August 18, 1862. Returned to farming and his law practice in Harrodsburg. Elected to the Kentucky House in 1867. Died at home in Harrodsburg on February 28, 1885.) |
