Found inBabaï, 1993: t.p. (Babaï) p. 6-7 (Babai was the site of an extinct town named Donet︠s︡, to which Igorʹ kni︠a︡zʹSeverskiĭ escaped from the Polovt︠s︡y in 1186. Muscovite settlement of Babai began in 1643, when the land was given to the children of the Chuguev boyars. One of their servants was named Fedor Klementʹev Babaĭ whose name the town eventually bore. In the charters and deeds of 1653 the village of Babai was usually referred to as: "selo Arkhangelʹskoe, Babai tozh")
