Admitted to the bar a year later and began to practice law in Bowling Green. Served as the county attorney for Warren County from 1938 to 1950 and the commonwealth attorney from 1951 to 1953. Was elected on August 1, 1953 to fill the vacancy in the U. S. House of Representatives caused by the death of Garrett L. Withers.)
