Dictionary of African Biography, accessed October 26, 2014, via Oxford African American Studies Center database: (Ahmed, Dini Ahmed; other forms of name; nationalist, Prime Minister; born 1930 in Afar, Djibouti; president of the Governing Council, Djibouti (1959); president of the Chamber of Deputies (1977); was prime minister; resigned his post (December 1977); created the Parti Populaire Djiboutien, an opposition party that was immediately outlawed (1981); imprisoned (1981-1982); retired from politics for nearly ten years; president of the Front for the Restoration of Unity and Democracy (Front pour la Restauration de l'Unité et de la Démocratie, FRUD) (1991); within several months, FRUD guerillas occupied northern Djibouti and most territory between Lake Abbé and Lake Assal; negotiated with France, international organizations, and humanitarian agencies and signed a peace treaty (2001); died September 2004 in Djibouti)
