Wikipedia, viewed 2 Dec. 2014 (University of Chester; a public university in the city of Chester, England; based on three campuses in Chester and one in Warrington; founded as Chester Diocesan Training College in 1839 by local leading figures in the Church of England; in 1921, it formally became an affiliated college of the University of Liverpool; in 1963 it became Chester College of Education when the UK government renamed teacher training colleges to colleges of education; in 1974, the number of courses was expanded beyond teacher education and the College was renamed Chester College of Higher Education; by 1996, it called itself University College Chester; however, the government changed the requirements for university colleges in 1999 to include only those that had their own degree-awarding powers and so it reverted to the title Chester College of Higher Education, though 'Chester, a College of the University of Liverpool' was frequently used in publicity material; in 2003 it was granted its own degree-awarding powers, and became known as University College Chester once again; in 2005, it was awarded full university status and became the University of Chester)
