Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, viewed online July 15, 2014 (Richard William Briginshaw, Baron Briginshaw; born 15 May 1908 in Brixton, London; died 26 March 1992 in Croydon. He worked in newspaper machine rooms in London and in 1938 was elected assistant secretary of the London machine branch of the National Society of Operative Printers and Assistants (NATSOPA). He was a member of the Communist Party, later joining the Labour Party. He was general secretary of NATSOPA form 1951 to 1974. He was strongly opposed to Britain joining the Common Market and became joint founder of the Get Britain Out campaign. In his retirement, he served on the council of the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS) from 1974-1976, and was a member of the British Overseas Trade Board (1975-1977) and the board of the British National Oil Corporation (1976-1979).)
