Oxford Dictionary of National Biography online, viewed 7 March 2018 (Goodrich or Goodryck, Thomas (1494-1554), bishop of Ely and lord chancellor; he was educated in Lincolnshire and at Jesus College, Cambridge, where he graduated BA in 1510 and MA in 1514; he became a fellow of the college and was made a proctor in 1515; he was ordained deacon in Lincoln diocese in 1522, and a priest the next year; on 16 November 1529, he was admitted to the rectory of St Peter Westcheap, London; a promotion to royal chaplaincy followed and in 1533 he was promoted to one of the canonries of St Stephen's, Westminster; in 1534 he was made Bishop of Ely; in 1551 Goodrich was made lord chancellor; after Mary's accession to the throne, he was allowed to retain his bishopric but he seems to have been held under house arrest in London until March or April 1554; he was then allowed to return to the country, to the palace of Somersham, Huntingdonshire, where he died on 10 May 1554)
