Dutch Wikipedia, viewed January 19th, 2024 (Tiberius (or Tjebbe) Hemsterhuis (born Groningen, early January 1685, died Leiden, April 7th, 1766) was a Dutch philologist and linguist. He worked as a professor of Mathematics at Amsterdam University but his major interest was the Greek language and culture. He taught these subjects at the universities of Friesland and Leiden. One of his merits was the stimualtion of the revival of Greek studies in the Netherlands in the 18th century.The renewal of the study of Greek and Greek culture (...) has been called the Schola Hemsterhusiana.)
