Pierre Goursat website, Life of Pierre Goursat and the Emmanuel Community, viewed June 22, 2023 (studied at the École du Louvre and the École Pratique des Hautes Études, 1935-1941; took over his mother's boarding house upon her death in 1941, ran it until 1949; collaborated with the Catholic Center of French Intellectuals 1946-1951, member of its steering committee; founded the Cercle français du cinéma in 1951, which organized public debates after film screenings; worked for the French Catholic Film Office (OCFC) 1960-1970, its general secretary; in February 1972 he heard an account of the Charismatic Renewal, and received an outpouring of the Spirit with Martine Laffitte, began daily prayer with her; by 1973 their prayer group had grown to about 500, split into prayer groups coordinated by the original group of five with Pierre as the leader, all given the name "Emmanuel" in March 1973; in 1978 he moved to a barge he had bought, on the bridge at Neuilly-sur-Seine near Paris, where he worked and lived in residential community with four others including Martine Catta (Laffitte); in 1985, following a heart attack, he retired from heading the Emmanuel Community; died on the barge on March 25, 1991)
