Biography/History note | ExxonMobil traces its roots to Vacuum Oil Company (founded in 1866) and it is also the largest direct descendant of John D. Rockefeller's Standard Oil (founded in 1870). Vacuum Oil later merged with the Standard Oil Company of New York, which later changed its name to Mobil and merged with Exxon (originally the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey) in 1999. |
